Annually, Epilepsy Alliance Africa holds a conference to promote awareness, improve outcomes for people with epilepsy and eradicate stigma. About this event Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological conditions that is neglected in Africa. This conference session gives a good introduction to epilepsy and the challenges African pateints and clinical caregivers face. It is a great opportunity for those who have contact with people with epilepsy, such as family and friends, those working in education, sports and nurses and doctors with interest in working in Africa. The aim of the conference is to a) Continue to advocate at a strategic level within the ministry of health for the delivery of epilepsy care in a primary health care settings thereby creating access to medical care that is appropriate to patients’ level of need (effective disease management from primary care through to acute level services and support post discharge). b) Campaigning for collective action to include education, employment, women’s, children and youth sectors, on epilepsy rights regionally and nationally, sensitising policy makers and planners to the rights of people with epilepsy. d) Mobilise communities, government ministries, and other organisations to play their role in improving epilepsy service and reducing stigma.
